Game Review: Euro Truck Simulator 2

After having Euro Truck Simulator 2 sitting in my library for what feels like forever, I finally gave in. For years, Steam kept nudging me, telling me I’d love it, but I ignored the signs. Well, now I've spent over 100 hours in just two weeks, and I’m kicking myself for not starting sooner. Seriously, it’s been 12 years and here I am, late to the party.

A few hours in, I couldn’t resist and grabbed all the map expansions and heavy cargo packs during a perfectly timed Steam sale — lucky me! And honestly, it was the best decision. The variety is insane. One minute you're cruising down the autobahn, the next you're winding through tight city streets or tackling steep mountain passes. There’s always something new to keep you on your toes.

Since I started playing, I’ve gained a whole new appreciation for truckers. The game gives you a feel for the daily grind they face, especially with all the chaos on the road. You get these crazy AI drivers that stop for no reason or pull wild moves — and it's frustratingly real, because that happens in real life too. It’s not all smooth sailing when you’re behind the wheel of a massive rig.

The scenery is gorgeous and diverse. You’re not just mindlessly driving; the routes have character. Long hauls on highways, scenic country roads, busy city centers — each drive has its own challenge and vibe. And let’s not forget about the modding scene. I’ve added mods for real-life billboards, gas stations, companies, and even extreme weather. My absolute favorite? The “Real Traffic Density” mod — it adds way more traffic and actual traffic jams, making the whole thing feel even more authentic.

What really sold me is how this game is perfect for both long-haul gaming sessions or just a quick drive when you’ve got some time to kill. It’s chill, but also engaging. Can’t recommend it enough. If you haven’t given it a go, you’re seriously missing out!
